More than a Place to work out
The Northern York County Family YMCA is more than just another workout facility. Our programs are designed to encourage members of our community to develop a strong body, mind and spirit. We reach out to the many vulnerable populations in our community regardless of their ability to pay.

  • Children:  We serve in excess of 3500 members: 40% of those are children and youth. The YMCA provides a wide range of activities that foster healthy children including teen clubs, sports leagues, family events, service projects and mentoring programs.
  • Low Income Families: The YMCA is one of the largest providers of affordable child care in the Biddeford/Saco community. Last year, we offered high-quality child care to over 200 working families, of which 50% received some form of financial assistance.
  • Elderly:  We provide social and group exercise activities specifically designed to meet the needs of adults over the age of 60.
  • Disabled/Other:  We recognize the need for programs designed for developmentally disabled youth and adults. Working closely with organizations such as Waban, Creative Works Systems, Sweetser and Youth Alternatives, the YMCA offered programs such as water group therapy to over 100 developmentally disabled people a month.

Mobilizing Community Resources
The YMCA was created by the local community to meet regional needs and is governed by a local board of community volunteers. Each year, we leverage our resources by partnering with other community organizations to meet the needs of area families.
  • Contributed Income:  We received over $65,000 of community support which directly funded assistance given to families who could not afford life changing YMCA programs.
  • Volunteer Hours: The YMCA mobilized 131 volunteers to serve the Biddeford/Saco region yielding over $25,000 worth of time given back to our community.
  • Mentoring Partnership:  The YMCA partners with 2 local Rotary clubs to reach at-risk youth through the Community Connections Program. 13 adult volunteers spend over 50 hours a month with children to build strong relationships and teach valuable life skills.
  • Swimming Lessons:  We partner with town recreation departments to offer children swimming lessons. Last year, over 1300 children took swimming lessons at the YMCA.
  • Place to belong:  Never underestimating the foundational need to belong, the YMCA offers services to over 10,000 people each year. Our programs are created to help people build self-confidence and encourage them to connect with others in our community.

Your Gift does make a difference
Every contribution to our Strong Communities Campaign, helps us provide program  support and financial assistance to needy families in our area. By partnering with the YMCA, your contribution goes far above simply impacting the bottom line. Your support truly makes a difference in the lives of people throughout our community. Each year we provide over $225,000 in financial assistance to children and families that otherwise could not afford access to life changing programs at the YMCA. Your contribution will enable us to build a stronger community one family, one relationship at a time.
