Summer Camp KidsThe Northern York County Family YMCA summer day camp program strives to provide a high quality camping experience for a wide range of community youth and teens with a diversity of needs and interests within our service area.

Each year our camp experience runs from the last week of June to the last week of August. The following is a detailed offering of our 2011 summer camp.

Camp Sokokis (Age 5  - entering Grade 6)
Camp Sokokis, situated on the wooded campus of the YMCA, is a co-educational, traditional day camp.  Campers will be part of a noncompetitive, nurturing environment that focuses on progressive skills and character development.  Camp Sokokis strives to help each camper build positive friendships and experiences based on the Judeo-Christian principles of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

Campers are placed into one of four villages consisting of:
Mikmaq Village (Ages 5 or entering Kindergarten)
Maliseet Village (Entering Grades 1-2)
Passamaquoddy Village (Entering Grades 1-2)
Wawenoc (Entering Grade 3)
Penobscot Village (Entering Grades 4-6)

Abenaki Village (Senior Camper) (Entering Grades 6-8)

Each camper is then placed into a tribe of 12-16 campers.

Campers participate in variety activities such as swim lessons, archery, teambuilding games, climbing tower/ropes course, arts & crafts, drama, sports & field activities, sleepovers, field trips and more.

Abenaki (Senior Camper) Village (entering grades 6 – 8)
The Senior Camper program is a bridge program aimed to provide veteran and new campers alike with a curriculum that more richly meets their developmental needs.  These campers are given glimpses of the CIT experience and are provided with the opportunity for independently-planned summer long projects.  Senior campers canoe or kayak once a week on Bunganut Lake at Camp Cedarbrook and go on an additional weekly field trip, all while still enjoying a regular daily program three of five camp days.

Counselor-in-Training Program-C.I.T (Entering grades 9-10)
This program is a 2 year experience for teens interested in learning to work in a camp setting.  Upon successful completion of the program, CITs may be offered employment at the age of 16. Participants take part in activities designed to teach camp tradition in a new and exciting way and gain hands-on experience to develop the skills necessary to become a future YMCA employee. CITs must commit to a minimum of seven weeks, with week 1  being mandatory. All participants must be scheduled for an interview prior to June 1. Space is limited!
Fee:  $250/summer

Specialty Camps
Camp Sokokis offers specialty camps for Passamaquoddy, Penobscot and Senior Campers looking for a different camp experience.  Half of the camper’s day will be spent practicing skills and participating in their specialized camp, while spending the other half of their day exploring traditional camp activities.
Registration deadline for all specialty camps is June 1
