The Northern York County Family YMCA summer day camp program strives to provide a high quality camping experience for a wide range of community youth and teens with a diversity of needs and interests within our service area.
Camp Sokokis (Age 4 - entering Grade 6)
Camp Sokokis, situated on the wooded campus of the YMCA, is a co-educational, traditional day camp. Campers will be part of a noncompetitive, nurturing environment that focuses on progressive skills and character development. Camp Sokokis strives to help each camper build positive friendships and experiences based on the Judeo-Christian principles of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
Campers are placed into one of three villages consisting of Kiddie Village (Ages 4-5), Junior Village (Entering 1-3 grade), and Senior Village (Entering 4-6 grade). Each camper is then placed into a tribe of 12-16 campers.
Campers participate in variety activities such as swim lessons, archery, teambuilding games, climbing tower/ropes course, arts & crafts, drama, sports & field activities, sleepovers, field trips and more.
Specialty Camps
Horseback Riding Specialty Camp (Week 9)
Partnering with Camp Oceanwood in Ocean Park, junior and senior villagers interested in an introduction to horsemanship will spend half of their day learning horse etiquette, riding technique and grooming. The other half of the day will include swimming and other day camp activities.
Registration deadline for this program is June 1, 2009
Gymnastics Add-On
Having partnered with Dudziak’s Gymnasium, we now offer a one-hour, once a week class to those Junior and Senior Villagers interested in Gymnastics. Campers will use age-appropriate equipment, participate in obstacle courses, jumping and climbing activities.
Teen Camps
Frontier Camp (Entering grades 6 – 8)
This is an excellent opportunity for teens that want to be exposed to a variety of experiences. Frontier campers will participate in one day of tradition activities at camp, one day doing a community service learning initiative, as well as spending the other three days tripping to destinations that they have decided upon as a group using a preset budget.
Counselor-in-Training Program (C.I.T) (Entering grades 8-10)
The C.I.T program is a progressive two to three year program for those teens interested in working in the camp setting. C.I.T.s will participate in activities designed to teach camp tradition in a new and exciting way as well as gain hands-on experience to develop the skills necessary to become a future camp counselor. Interested teens must apply for acceptance into the program and commit to seven weeks.
