If you love water and would like to improve your skills, the YMCA offers a wide array of specialty programs:

Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts Aquatic Badges
Scouts earn your swimming badge at the Northern York County Family YMCA.  Our Aquatic staff will teach you all you need to know.  For more information or to schedule your group, please contact Bob Eagle at 283-0100, x40. 

Lifeguard Training Program (Ages 15+)
This is a certification course.  Professional CPR, First Aid, AED, and Lifeguard Training are certifications are received upon successful completion of the course. Employment opportunities are available at the Northern York County Family YMCA to those who excel in this class.  
Pre-Requisites:
- Minimum age of 15
- Swim 300 yards continuously
- Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute, 40 seconds.

Saturday:   9:00am-6:30pm

YMCA Maine Masters Program (Starts 10/5)
The Masters Swimming program at the YMCA is comprised of adult swimmers, ages 18 and older. We are a practice site of the Maine Masters Swim Club and have regularly scheduled, coached swim times. This program is great for those who want to compete in Masters Events, triathlons or just want to continue improving their physical fitness and swimming ability. Due to a growing swim team, practice schedules may vary each month starting anywhere from 7:30-8:00pm and running 45 minutes.  Any questions, please contact Lia at 207-283-0100x48.
Tuesday, Thursday: vary monthly between 7:30-8:00pm: running 45 minutes (Coach led) 
Sunday    11:00am-Noon (Open w/ workouts)

Fee: Member: $10/month, Non-member: $5/per visit 
Maine Masters Swim Club Fee:  $40/per year

Kayak Rolling Clinic 
This class is for participants 18 and over.  Are you interested in learning to roll your sea or whitewater kayak?  Do you want to improve your Eskimo roll or learn another rolling technique?  Practice makes perfect!  Bring your boat or use one of ours to try your hand at the ultimate self-rescue.  You must demonstrate an effective wet exit before the class begins.  These are drop-in sessions.  For more information or to register, please contact the Biddeford Recreation Department at 283-0841 and ask for Brian Dunphe.

American Red Cross Babysitting Training (Mature children 11 and over)
Looking for a fun class that will teach you skills to last a lifetime?  This care-giving course includes preparation for job interviews, choosing safe and appropriate activities and toys, diapering and feeding infants, and responding to choking or bleeding emergencies.  Does not include certification in CPR or First AID.  Our Spring schedule consists of two opportunities to participate in this class. The class is 6-hours in length.

Fee:   Member: $35, Non-member: $45

Infant/Child/Adult CPR and AED
For family members, friends, and members of the general community who want to learn CPR. Also for those who have a duty to respond to a cardiac emergency because of job  responsibilities or regulatory requirements.  Call Bob at 283-0100 x40 for more information. This class is approximately 7 hours in length.

Fee:   Member: $45, Non-member: $55

Our Spring schedule consists of one opportunity to participate in this class. Each class is approximately 3-hours in length.
